Most of the training was done in the cold ~ not too many days were in skirts & t-shirts. So, it was good {and bad} that the temperature 4:00 am {when I woke up} was 62°. No questioning what to wear ~ my Athleta swagger skort & a pink short sleeve top & added the pigs & an Underarmor headband & I was ready to rock.
Ate my bagel & peanut butter on the ride in, knowing exactly where I was going to park...only to find that S. Marginal Road is closed between W55th and the Muni Lot...so I drive back to 90 & get off at St. Claire, thinking I can get back to the muni lot...which I can't. So I park on Lakeside...a block from E9th. Yea, that was easy & close. Often it is better to be lucky than smart. I think God was looking out for us, because Mike needed us to be close.
The skies were overcast, but it was warm at the 7:00am start. And it felt GOOD to run. Only running 7.5 miles this week really had my legs fresh & the need to run strong. Took the shoreway out & was just flying {for me} My goal was to run 8:20/mile to start & then hopefully have enough to run negatives as I got further into the race. Well, once again, my start was fast, the crowd was fast & I couldn't help myself. The difference this race, I knew my legs were strong enough to finish the job.
At the first water stop the kid (probably in his 20's) takes his cup of water & I watch him reach inside the neck of his shirt. He pulls out a straw taped to a piece of string. He drinks his water, tucks the straw back in & hasn't broken stride at all. I mention how awesome that is & he said a coach told him to do it. I will have to remember this for my next race.
Saw Anita at mile 6. She's my rock star cheerlearder. Saw the Byers clan around mile 12. & Patrick took the best pictures.
I crossed that finish line & my watch said 1:47:34 ~ @ 13.23 miles. I started it on the start line & stopped it just past the finish line. And the Cleveland Marathon is only reporting my clock time. There must have been a problem with my start crossing, because it sent out the texts at the 10K and the end. BOO.

Mike (who's Akron half time is 1:47:30) and I will never know for sure who ran the fastest half. And that may be the very best thing that could happen. I'm just very proud of myself. I finished strong & beat my previous time.

And Mike says he broke at mile 8. 26.2 is a long way to travel...when you don't want to after mile 8. His first half was 1:55 ~ very good ~ The sun came out and the temperature soared {really} into the 80's. His dad and sister were at mile 17 by the Cleveland Clinic, so I knew he'd passed them. Then we got the 30K text alert which put him finishing at 4:05. Slower than the first half, but with the heat, pretty good. Then he said he just died. With 3 miles to go, Jackie "flew" past him & he thought, "oh, no" So he caught up to her and she talked him to the finish line. At one point he told her to go because he felt he was holding her back, but she was his guardian angel and ran with him to the end. It did my heart good to see them come down to the finish...And he's never ever ever going to run a marathon again. {so he says}

So...here's Today's update (5/20) from the Cleveland Marathon. They gave me :13 on the start. And I moved up in the standings. For the Record there were 580 Females in my age group. Placing 20th isn't too shabby. There were 7, 407 half marathoners total. I placed 954. {I'm beast.}
