long run

The long run is an entity all it's own.   It has it's own place in training and it has it's own place in the head.  There are days when it's all I can do to plod through a 3 mile run, but on Saturday that all changes.  Everything is different when I head out the door to put in some serious miles.
Thursday I had a miserable run.  It was kinda warm {which means just above freezing this spring} and the sun was shining...so to treat myself I went to one of my favorite running spots...the bike path in Geneva.  And every step I took was like running through mud.  I forced myself to put in those 5, and it wasn't a joy.   So, I was a little nervous heading into today's long run.  Last week's 12 was really good...and you don't always have good runs...and I'd just come off a bad one...and the weather was till only kinda warm...not really warm...and I couldn't decide how far I wanted to run..
So I just went out and ran.  And I went 13.5 in 2:05.  It was amazing  my longest run EVER.
But back to that ling run mentality.  I don't know what it is, but when I leave for that long run, time doesn't really matter.  It's just me, my tunes, and the road.  I get to the point where I think, only 5 more miles, I'm almost home   What s that? And why can't I have that when it's everything I've got to get 3 in?

I'm so proud of myself and the fact that I ran a personal long today.  I'm also so excited for the Cleveland Half in May.  {I'm also seriously contemplating a full...what is wrong with me?}
