January Run Log

Happy Running January ~ This month Good Running supported Girls with Sole and we were sponsored by Farm to Feet socks.  They are cool ~ they have a cool Captain America-like star on them.
January had many treadmill miles {14 of my 22 runs were on the mill} and the first of my speed workouts at Spire.  While I like having DONE speed workouts...I'm a big BIG whiner while doing them.  I don't like that heart pounding...like it's going to explode feeling.  When I finish a speed interval, I want to lay down and die.  I do not want to jog for recovery...I don't even really want to walk.  I want to lay down and stop doing that.
I don't know if I'm getting better or faster...Had to skip last week because of a track meet at Spire... So I voluntarily (my idea) did a hill workout at the cemetery in Geneva.  Don't know if that made me better or stronger either.
Last Sunday I told Mike I was not running our 14 miler on a treadmill ~ so we went to the Greenway Trail in Ashtabula.  There was a little snow (an inch or two) by the parking lot.  We headed north & the snow got deeper and deeper.  The trail end to the north about 6.25 miles from Jewels Dance Hall.  And it's kinda a scary place...Like I think the Gallaghers live there.  As we near the end...we notice more and more footprints in the snow.  We know these people are not out walking their dog or taking runs...These footprints were many and probably not good purposed.  Luckily for us...it was early morning.  Everyone knows bad people sleep late.  Anyway...we don't turn around at trail's end...we're not at 7 miles.  We run through the scary neighborhood ~ houses with broken out windows...and four cars in the driveway.  Sad conditions for many of these folks.  But we turn around and trudge the 7 miles back to the car with no bad situations to report.  So maybe my stereotype needs to be altered.  But this is a prime example of why I always take my Mike with me.

funny

Playing Simon Says with Palmer (6) and Jackson (4) at Joey's.

Palmer:  "Simon Says touch your nose."

Jackson and I touch our noses.

Palmer: "Simon Says touch the gum under the table."

me: "WHAT?"

Palmer:  "It's gooey."

Jackson picks some off, holds it up and says, "It's blue."

End of dinner at Joey's.

Prom

We've been to three NERC Winter Banquets now, and they are much fun.  Kelly has dubbed it Adult Prom ~ and it's very fitting.  We get all dressed up and go to a fancy place to eat and drink and dance.  Mike got a bow tie & I work my LLR sparkly/twirly dress (doesn't look very sparkly in the picture, but it was)

Trying to take a nice picture of me and my marathon man...and these goof balls "ruin" it :)

This year I placed first in my age group :)  I'm very happy with this considering I had a less-than-stellar race season.  I just happened to pick the races that other people avoided...so I was able to accumulate points.  Funny point:  I have yet to spend any of my NERC Grand Prix winnings from any of the three years I've won something.  I have a good little stash of cash...which I've decided is my tattoo money.  Now I just need to figure out what exactly I want ~ on my foot...

This weekend has been beautiful.  It was 65 degrees for NERC Prom ~ and it was still warm this morning.  I joined the Distler-Chandler crew at Lake Erie Bluffs and found some beach glass.
I learn from Landon that with the Lake gets too full and the water comes to the parking lot it's called a flood.  Good to know.

Winner

Team Beef Ohio has a Garmin Group (and five of us are in it!)  Someone started a challenge...who could run the farthest in a week.  AND I WON.  I love the distance I ran last week...26.2 miles.  And this is proof that I am way to motivated to win for my own good.
And yesterday's funny.  Ohio Trail Runner posted an article about Good Running ~ and one of the questions was the following:
LOVE the answer!  It's funny because it's true :)  I cropped it and made the fun frame...and posted it here because it's worth remembering.

#SnowFun

Thursday we went back to school & Friday was SNOW DAY #2!  Gotta love a snow day right at the start of the second semester.  Got up bright and early that Friday morning ~ headed to the Y for my swim...the roads were snow covered & it was coming down, but honestly, I'd driven to the Y in worse weather...so the thought of a snow day didn't really enter my mind.  Dodd showed up late with the news of our day off!  So I swam a mile.  Kelly wondered if we wanted to ski, but Dodd said no, so we decided to try snowshoeing instead.  Headed to Chapin Forest around noon...and they were closed!  Seems the snow only fell in Eastern Lake County & Ashtabula County.  So we hiked & made snow angels and sledded with the kids.  It was a BEAUTIFUL Colorado-like cold and sunny day.  Glorious.

Another snow day highlight...It was Friday, so we had BBQ "burger" with curry kraut & roasted sweet potatoes for lunch from CLE Juice Box.  Amazing.  ~ and tried the VACATION juice for the first time.  The Cranberry Beet is still my favorite (wish I remembered the name) but this one with carrots and pineapple was pretty amazing.
While Friday was bright, crisp and sunny...Saturday morning's fun run was cold and snowy.  Love that we had reservations {complete with name tags} for breakfast...so we really weren't going to back out.  Without the NERC peer pressure today would have been a treadmill day.  We got to Big Creek Park in Chardon a little before 7 & at 7 all these bundled up runners with headlamps emerged from their warm vehicles.  Off we went for a five mile out-back.  At 8 we met up with the main group & went for another 5 mile out-back.  It was beautiful.  The snow falling in my headlamp and the crunch of our feet on the snow packed road...peaceful.

Crazy NERC runners!

Then we went to breakfast...best sausage gravy & biscuits I've ever had!  and mimosas and bacon and oatmeal and fruit and eggs and pastries and...YUM

Lots of my favorite people!

New Year

A beautiful sunny day to start 2017.  I bundled up and headed to my happy place.  Funny how much the lakeshore has changed since I was last there in November.  Many of my landmarks are no more ~ also discovered that those wet rocks sure are slippery.  I had to use some loose rocks to bang out a few frozen ones to get at some of the beach glass I found.  A pretty good haul (and I threw some cool green pieces back so they could tumble some more)
